Weekly Update 11/1/20

November 1, 2020

Dear SEES Families,

This week we are so excited to welcome back our students in grades 2 and 3!  If you have not done so already, please take a moment to review our updated Handbook with your students so they understand the new safety protocols that are in place.  Mrs. McLeod and I also recorded some videos for students so they feel more comfortable returning to campus.  Please note that school will be closed to all students on November 3rd because SEES is a polling location.  This means that if your student is in cohort A (Tuesday/Thursday), their first day of school will be on Thursday, November 5th.

As much as I was hoping I would still be at school to welcome our students in grades 2-5 back, I am under doctor’s orders and beginning my maternity leave.  I begin my leave with a full bucket and happy heart after getting to see so many students and teachers happily back on campus.  I also feel fortunate to have Mrs. McLeod co-leading with me because she is incredibly talented and will fully support our students and staff as we continue to welcome students back to campus.  Doug Kramer will be supporting Mrs. McLeod while I am on maternity leave.  He has been a principal since 1987 in both Capistrano Unified School District and Solana Beach School District.  He retired in 2015, and has enjoyed subbing as an administrator ever since.  Please join me in welcoming Mr. Kramer to SEES!

Morning Drop-Off

With our second phase of students coming back, please be aware that their start and end times are different from our students in grades TK-1.  We will have the back gate open in the morning and afternoon for students in grades 2-5 who walk to and from school.  Students in grades 2-5 will not be allowed to come onto campus until 8:30am.  While we would prefer that students not arrive at school until 8:30am, we understand that if you have a child in TK-1 it may not be possible to do 2 morning drop offs.  If your student needs to arrive before 8:30a, we ask that they find a parallelogram sticker in front of the school and sit while they wait for the gate to open. If this applies to your family, please let your child know that they will need to sit quietly with their mask on until we are able to open the gates.

Afternoon Pick-Up

Dismissal times for grades 2 and 3 will be 2:25p.  If your child needs to wait for a younger sibling, we will ask the older sibling to sit on a parallelogram in front of the school with their mask on while they wait.  We will dismiss students who walk home from classrooms first.  We will then be looking at our iSchoolRide app to dismiss students from classrooms as parents arrive at school. If you have not registered for iSchoolRide yet, please follow these instructions

LumiSight

When students arrive on campus they will need to be screened at the gate. Click HERE for information on what gate your student will be entering.  Students will need to be wearing a face mask that covers their nose and mouth, use the provided hand sanitizer, and confirm that they have completed the health screening at home through the LumiSight web app. Students will then walk directly to their classroom. The LumiSight activation codes were sent to your child’s email address.  If you no longer have it, please enter your child’s email address into LumiSight and click “forgot password”. If your student is walking to school on their own, it is very important that you complete the LumiSight screening in advance for them so we can look up their name in the program.

Health and Safety

In order for your student to begin in-person instruction, you must complete the Health and Safety Form.

Attendance

Please call in your student’s absences in the morning at 760-290-2605.  Your message needs to include: the day, the time, and the reason for the absence.  If your student is sick we need to know the specific symptoms.

Free Lunches

This year we are providing free lunches to all of our students. If you would like to view the daily menu, please visit the CNS site

Week of November 2nd:

  • Second and Third Grade will begin in-person instruction on the A/B, two full-days per week hybrid model.

  • Students have been assigned to either Tuesday/Thursday or Wednesday/Friday.

  • Cohort assignments were sent to families.

  • Due to SEES being a polling location on election day, there will be no in-person instruction on Tuesday, November 3rd.  All students will access remote learning on this day.  The remote learning day will follow the same bell schedule as a typical Tuesday. You may access the communication from Dr. Campbell regarding this change by clicking here. Because of this, if your child is in Cohort A, his/her first day on campus will be Thursday, November 5th.

Red Ribbon Week

This week we will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week to celebrate and recognize the positive things we do to take care of ourselves and stay healthy.  Your student’s teacher will be sharing the fun learning activities Ms. Leena and her interns have put together this year.  We will also have fun dress up days, so mark your calendars!

Monday: Pajama Day

Tuesday: Wear Neon Clothes or Sunglasses

Wednesday: Wear Red to Commit to Making Good Choices

Thursday: Wear Your Favorite Sports Shirt or Jersey

Friday: Wear a Lei or Island Vacation Outfit

PTO

We are excited to gear up for our Apex Fundraising event coming to our school on Monday, November 9th. While we are sad we can’t see the students out on the track this year with their fun runs, we have a Virtual Apex “Remix” full of moves and daily lessons to show our MIGHTY spirits. Please stay tuned for more information next week. Thank you for supporting the SEES community and the SEES PTO in our fundraising efforts for this year and beyond! See the attached Apex newsletter for additional information about the program. Go Eagles!!!

Thank you to all of you for helping make our transition back to in-person learning go so smoothly.  We are looking forward to our continued collaboration as we continue along this journey.

Warmly,

Emily and Mara
