Principal's Newsletter 8/21/22

Dear San Elijo Elementary Families,

Thank you for a great first week of school! I appreciate your patience and understanding as we settle into our procedures for the year. Drop off, pick up, and all other school procedures are running smoother each day. I have just a few important reminders and updates.

During the 45-minute lunchtime, all students have about 20 minutes to eat before transitioning to the playground or back to class. Students are also able to eat more during their recess time. Early on, kindergarten and 1st-grade students take a couple of weeks to adjust to this schedule. If there is a lot of food packed, it is typical for everything not to be eaten entirely by the end of the day. It’s also normal for students (and adults) to come home hungry in the afternoon from school. We had a few students worried about not finishing all their food, so I wanted to ensure everyone knew the school procedure and the time limit. Lastly, please make sure your children can open their containers. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns as we settle into this new routine.

Parking lot procedures

Parents and caregivers are doing a great job with pick-up and drop-off guidelines which has benefitted all! Thank you for always pulling forward in the drop-off/pick-up lane, keeping the parking lot free for kindergarten families before 2:50, using the dashboard signs, and never u-turning on Schoolhouse.

Our PTO-funded STEM lab opens this week! Mr. Bell is excited to teach students additional Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math lessons. All kinder through 5th-grade students will visit the STEM lab every other week for a 40-minute lesson (so if your child doesn't go this week, they will go next week). Thank you, families, for supporting our fundraising efforts to bring this unique opportunity to our SEES students! Our PTO-funded Art and Drama programs will start soon as well!

In addition to weekly emails, we communicate short reminders, updates, and announcements to parents via the app. It is set up for text messages but downloading the app is recommended. This is optional since messaging rates may apply, and you may not want to receive frequent messages from me. Please click on the appropriate link below-
