Principal's Newsletter 9/11/2022

Dear San Elijo Elementary Families,

I hope you are having a meaningful day as we reflect on the 9/11 attacks. Among many things, it’s a great reminder of how much our first-responders sacrifice and are ready to come to our aid at a moment's notice. Thank you to all firefighters, police officers, and all first responders!

Parking Reminders

We are seeing a large amount of traffic in the school parking lot during dismissal, accessed using the left lane into the school. The large number of cars using the parking lot has increased congestion and created safety concerns during dismissal. Here are a few reminders-

  1. If your child can enter the car and buckle their seatbelt on their own, please use the drive-up lane (right lane entrance into the school) and pull all the way forward to allow all of the cars behind you to enter the lot.
  2. Please do not park on the red curb or double park in the parking lot during dismissal. This is a serious safety concern. If we were to have an emergency, and cars were parked there, it could delay their response.
  3. You just use a designated crosswalk when walking your child from the parking lot to the front of the campus.
  4. If you need to use the parking lot to pick up your child, you must park in a spot, use the crosswalk, and wait until after kindergarten dismissal (2:50 pm) to enter the parking lot.
  5. When exiting the parking lot, please use the “zipper” approach to help get the cars out of the parking lot in a timely manner. This will allow the traffic to flow smoothly through the drive-up and parking lot.
  6. Please follow all traffic rules (i.e., no illegal u-turns, do not turn right up Schoolhouse from the left lane) and be courteous to the other drivers. The more we all follow the rules, the safer and quicker the dismissal will be for all.

SEES Garden

Let's go to the SEES Garden!  If you're unfamiliar with the gardening program at SEES, it's a "garden to table" program where the students learn about planting, maintaining, harvesting, and composting. Every classroom has an assigned Garden Week where students get the opportunity to experience our outdoor classroom.  New and returning parent volunteers are encouraged and welcome to prepare the garden for the students!

Come get your hands dirty or just learn about the school garden program.  No green thumb is needed.

SEES Garden Volunteer Interest List can be found here:

*Green Thumb Nursery*

Green Thumb Nursery San Marcos on 1019 San Marcos Blvd will donate 10% of any purchase to the SEES Garden.  Simply keep your receipts, and place them in the "Green Thumb" box in the front office or the PTO Mail Box located outside of the SEES main door

Cash For Kids Drive

The Cash for Kids Fundraising Drive is underway! This is the only fundraiser where 100% of your donation goes directly to the PTO, allowing us to have STEM, Art, and Drama teachers, instructional aides, and so much more. The goal is to raise $40,000 this month! To donate online, click here. And be on the lookout for flyers being distributed this week with more information about the Cash for Kids campaign, as well as donation prizes, including SEES hats, yearbooks, plushies, and more! Questions? Email [email protected].

Yearbook Cover Contest Reminder

Once again, SEES students will be the official artists of our school yearbook! All submissions must be received by September 26th, 2022!

San Elijo Elementary’s 2022-2023 yearbook theme celebrates our student’s dreams and aspirations. This year, we are asking students to draw their hopes and dreams for the future.

Every child’s submissions will be included in the yearbook.

Please use a WHITE 8.5  x 11 sheet of paper for each drawing.

Paper orientation must be vertical

Try to use as much of the paper as possible. The bigger, the better!

No wording (the yearbook team will insert the school name and the year)

Draw and color your artwork with any medium you like (pencils, pens, crayons, markers).

The student’s name, grade, and teacher’s name MUST be written on the back of the paper in pencil only so it does not show through the artwork on the front.

Entries should be placed in the YEARBOOK folder in the office

Have fun and good luck!
