Welcome to First Grade Email

Good Morning!  I sent this email through the emails I received from your child's information, if you didn't get one on Sunday morning, please let me know.

I wanted to send an email to welcome you and your child to their 1st Grade Year!  My name is Jami Hainey and I will be your child's teacher for this school year.  I am looking forward to meeting you and your children Tuesday morning!  First grade is such an important year in your child's school future...lots of learning takes place, as well as, independence on the campus and making new friends!
As you may have heard, our school website is under construction and the teachers were only trained this week.  Please be patient as I'll be adding more when I actually learn how to do it 😉
Parent communication is very important, especially with our closed campus.  I am a big "emailer" and send reminders a few times a week.  Please expect to receive a weekly email from me each Sunday morning....there are times when it comes a little later in the day depending on my son's baseball schedule.  So if you don't get one early Sunday, it can also come early evening as well.
If you know someone in the class who is not receiving my emails, please have them contact me via my school email.
First grade is different than kindergarten because of the longer day.  Students have a hard time adjusting to this in the first few weeks/months so please make sure they try to get to bed early and have a good breakfast!  During the first few days of school SEES will be open for you to walk your child to class in the morning.  You can help your child hang their backpack on the hooks by our room (#208), put their lunches in the cooler in front of our classroom and then go to the "BIG" playground until the first bell rings.  When they hear that first bell, they should start making their way to our classroom.  You are all welcome to come inside the classroom at 8:45am with your child to check out their desks and our class, but we will need to make quick "goodbyes" shortly after so we can begin our first day.

Lunch is at 11:00am.  We also have an additional snack time at 1:10pm.  Please make sure to label their afternoon snack so they know not to eat it at lunchtime.  This happens frequently and then they are starving by 1:00 and won't have their snack.  If your child is buying lunch, please make sure they know whether to use a lunch account or to pay with cash.  This can be very confusing at the beginning of the year.  I have student lunch cards with all students' names on them for their use.  You can add money to their account by accessing the school website at sanelijoelementary.org

We will be having PE Mondays/Thursdays.  PE does start this Thursday so please make sure they have closed toe shoes on to support their play.

I have already purchased all the supplies your child will need in my classroom.  They will be ready to go Tuesday when they arrive.  If you would like to donate to our classroom supply closet, you can check out our frequently used items on my school website also.  We appreciate the replenishments because we go through them very quickly.  Please make sure your child has a backpack and a lunch/lunch money and a water bottle each day.  It's a good idea to label everything with their name too.  Please eliminate sweet drinks/juices/Gatorade because SEES has a huge ant problem!

I am usually very good about communication with you all.  Should you ever need to contact me, my school email works the best.  I get back to you within a day and check very often.  Your child will be having a BLUE daily folder that they will use as their way to bring school papers and classwork home to you.  You may always use that folder to send notes to me as well....just remind your child to take it out to give to me.

We can definitely use all the parent support in the classroom you want to give.  We will start parent volunteering probably in the 3rd week of school.  This will give me time to establish routines and our schedule.  I will be talking about volunteer opportunities during Back to School Night and will also send home paperwork about this too!  Let me know if you have any questions.
Please join us in our classroom NEXT Tuesday, August 28th at 5:30pm for my presentation.  I will be going into more detail about what's in this email and what you can expect from your child's first year.

Once again, welcome to First Grade!  We have such a year full of growth ahead of us!  I am very excited and honored to be your child's teacher.  You are the most important person in your child's life and I look forward to working with you for your child's educational benefit!  If you ever have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to me!

I think that is it for now.  Tuesday will be an exciting day and I probably won't sleep a wink at all Monday night anticipating meeting you all!!!!  Have a great last day of summer!
Last, but not least, have your child check out your mailbox tomorrow.  They will be receiving a postcard from me!
