About Me

Hello! I come from a long line of teachers, and it seemed I was destined to join the "family business" since I was a kid! This is my 11th year teaching in San Marcos Unified. I attended the University of California at Santa Cruz where I majored in American Studies. Go Banana Slugs! I then returned to my hometown of San Diego to receive my teaching credential through National University. I continued on and earned a Master of Education degree specializing in Best Practices. This is my 7th year as a San Elijo Eagle, and I love teaching here! In addition to teaching, I am a coordinator for our school's GATE program along with Mrs. Nicol. My time in this district has given me many opportunities to work with amazing students, families, and faculty. I am very excited for a wonderful fifth grade year!

Mr. McCormick Proposing     Lorelei and Al Poochino

My wife, Becca, and I have been married for six years. As Student Council co-advisors at Richland Elementary, we began a friendship that would eventually lead to an extremely memorable Friday Flag salute, during which I enlisted the aid of several students to propose. We live in San Marcos and keep ourselves busy with home improvement projects year round!

Our daughter, Lorelei, will be 5 in October, and she is now a SEES student herself in Mrs. Meeker's TK class! She is a bundle of energy, and the job of parenting is an exhausting one. However, it is so rewarding to watch as her personality continues to unfold. You can find her playing princesses (current fave princess: Ariel), leading dance parties (current jam: anything from the Descendants soundtrack), or splashing in the pool.

As a family, we enjoy trips to Disneyland, SeaWorld, the zoo and Safari Park, and the beach. Our 7-year old lab-mix Al Poochino especially likes when we take him along! I was also a Chargers season ticket holder back when they were San Diegans, so I find myself as a free agent fan. Until I find a new team to love, I will have to focus my energy on my Fantasy Football leagues!
