About Me

                                  Yellowstone

I am very excited to return to San Elijo Elementary for my sixteenth year, and I am excited to return to 4th grade after spending the last 5 years as a 3rd-grade teacher.  I feel honored to be part of the amazing staff at SEES and the welcoming community of San Elijo. I have never taught at a school and been part of a community that is as close to one another as San Elijo.

I have lived in San Diego for most of my life. I was born and raised in San Marcos and lived there until I moved to Encinitas when I was eight years old. I graduated from La Costa Canyon High School and went on to Sonoma State University, where I received my Bachelors of Arts in Liberal Studies. From Sonoma I moved to Carlsbad and attended San Marcos State University, where I received my teaching credential in 2006.

In 2009 I was married to my beautiful wife Tara. Tara is a resource teacher in the Vista Unified School District. In April 2011, my wife and I had our first child, Donovan Hogan, and in June 2013, we welcomed our second child, Keira to the world.  We are both very proud parents.

As many students and parents already know, I am an outdoor person. My favorite hobby is surfing and I love participating in many other sports and activities such as mountain biking, hiking, snowboarding, wakeboarding, skateboarding, football, and bodysurfing. I am also a huge fan of watching sports. My favorite sport to watch is football, and my favorite team is the 49ers. I love baseball too, with the Padres as my number one team.   I am very excited to start the new school year and meet my new students and their families.

If you would like to know more about me, my teaching experiences and philosophies, or you would just like to chat, feel free to drop by room 404.

Sincerely,
Shawn Hogan
