3rd Grade

Third Graders at SEES are excited about learning and excited about their friends. This is a year for students to be aware of the choices they make and the consequences that come with those choices. Teachers work with students on setting goals and becoming more responsible for their actions. Finally, students build their collaboration skills.

Reading

Students are expected to read at least 15 minutes everyday. They need to be encouraged to talk about their reading and to really think about what is happening in the story and why.

Writing

Students need to be given opportunities and purposes for writing. Encourage students to write letters or keep journals. They need to be reminded to re-read their writing to look for corrections that could be made. Encourage them to notice what an author has done with the story and for them to use the author's format as a guide for their own writing.

Math

Keep your student sharp on his/her basic math facts for addition and subtraction. If your student doesn't like to practice flashcards, there are various computer games and online math games available that make memorizing math facts fun. Check out our Resources pages for links.
